His Humor
He could address any situation or audience with a timely dose of humor.  He could make you laugh even when tears were rolling down your cheeks.

One of the most memorable jokes he would tell was about a man who had a problem remembering.  He was very upset over his problem and went to the doctor.  The doctor listened to him briefly, told him to go lie down on the couch and tell him all about it.  The man looked up in a puzzled manner, at the doctor and said, "Tell you more about What? Doc!

Brilliant Mind
Dr. Gibbs could take one, two, or three words and compose a sermon that would leave lasting memories i.e. Three Ducks in Muddy Water, The Shut In, DUZ, and But One.  He was an expert in grammar, bible verses, math, music (shaped notes), poetry and lyrics to songs, history and remarkable relation of current events.

Because of his excellent command and interpretation of the scriptures, he was know to some as a Preachers' preacher.  He was known emulated, respected, admired, in constant demand; an artist and accomplished singer.

Generosity
The benchmark of his life was his generosity, which was extended unselfishly and without penalty.  If there is a song that depicts his life it is, "If I could Help Somebody".  Without question, he helped many as he "passed along". Without question; he cheered many with a "word or song. " Without question, he showed thousands they were "traveling wrong". And surely his living was not in vain!

He was married to the former Thelma L. Morgan for 55 years and they had five children: Camilla L. Woods, Shelton T.W. III ( a gospel preacher), Dwight Alexander (a gospel preacher who began his minister the day after his father was funeralized), and Joe Darrell (a gospel preacher who assisted him at the Stop Six Church of Christ for 20 years), Carla Yvonne (deceased at birth~1956).  In addition to his wife and children he leaves to cherish his memories daughters-in-law; Jeanette Godwin Gibbs (Shelton, III), Cleo Kay Walker Gibbs (Dwight), Taryn Mullins Gibbs (Joe Darrell), and 1 caring son-in-law; Charles M. Woods (Camilla); 11 grandchildren; David Shelton Blakely, Shawnell T.W. Gibbs-Bradshaw, Kevin E. Blakely, Shalon T.W. Gibbs, Shelton T.W. Gibbs IV, Brian Keith Blakely, Shandra T.W. Gibbs, Carla Petrice Gibbs-Burgess, Sherilyn T.W. Gibbs, Joe Darrell Gibbs, Jr., and Jemarcus Darnell Gibbs; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Robert A. Gibbs of Dallas, Texas; nieces and nephews, devoted former son-in-law, David E. Blakely and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition, special thanks is extended to niece Gloria Dean Young and her husband Foster for diligently caring for their "Uncle' Shelton and "Aunt" Thelma.

Those who preceded him in death are Father, S.T.W. Gibbs, Sr,. Mother, Lovie Ann Gibbs; Sister, Mary E Anglin and Beatrice Busby; Brother, Benjamin F. Gibbs, and an infant brother; Daughter, Carla Y. Gibbs, grandson, David E. Blakely, Jr. and great granddaughter, Jordyne S. Blakely.
