Dr. Joe D. Gibbs, Sr.
Joe D. Gibbs, Sr. is a native of Fort Worth, Texas and has lived in Fort Worth for 49 years. He is married to the former Taryn Yvonne Mullins of Tulsa, Oklahoma and they have two sons, Joe Darrell, Jr. (Marquita Gibbs) , and Jermarcus Darnell; two grandsons, Joe Darrell, III and Marquis Lebron. Brother Gibbs is a graduate of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell Texas, and Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Oklahoma. He has done advanced studies at Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas and the Center for Christian Education in Irving, Texas. He holds an honorary Doctor of Ministry Degree from Northpointe Christian Academy, Montgomery, Ala.
Dr. Gibbs is President, Founder and Director of the Ministers Annual Appreciation Conference (M.A.A.C.) which honors distinguished ministers of the gospel; The founder and director of the National Academy Of Christians Studies (N.A.C.S.) - which serves as a resource of Christian Education accessible to the entire civilized world through lap campuses; founder and director of The National Association Of Congregational Achievement (N.A.C.A.) which honors distinguished churches. He has the longest uninterrupted Radio Ministry among African American Churches of Christ in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area at 27 years, which also serves as one of the most enduring radio pragrams in religious radio broadcasting.
Dr. Gibbs is the recipient of many honors and awards, the most recent being named to the Alumni Hall of Fame at Southwestern Christian. While a student at Southwestern he received the highest honor that is bestowed upon a male student being voted "Mr. Southwestern". Other honors at S.W.C.C. where "Mr. Esquire" and "Most humourous" . He was also awarded the title of Citizen of the Week by a local newspaper in Fort Worth, Texas. Brother Gibbs is called on frequently to speak at state and national lectureships and to conduct gospel and revival meetings throughout the brotherhood. He is a mutli-talented preacher and he uses his talents for the glory and honor of God as well as to motivate and strengthen the Stop Six Church of Christ and he has been preaching for 31 years. He baptized over 1,100 people in the decade of the 90's, baptizing as many as 55, 40, 36, 30, and 27 in one service, and a service with over 250 responses. He continues to get people to the water through sound, plain, powerful, gospel preaching. He has been the full time at the Stop Six congregation for over 26 years.
